A.V. Spaniel Novice Working K.C. Test – Saturday 12th September 2026
The Club were very privileged to be invited to hold our last Kennel Club Working Spaniel Test of the year on a new Shoot in the heart of the Dorset countryside. It was a beautiful sunny day, but cool enough for the spaniels to work through the wonderful Estate.
The cover crop was excellent hunting ground for the spaniels, with plenty of scent as the birds had only been pushed out in the early morning.
Every Spaniel had their run on fresh ground, there was no going backwards and forwards over the same area. With birds being pushed out, as the spaniels had their noses to the ground.
Many thanks to Sarah Harvey & Gill Hooper for welcoming the club onto their lovely shooting ground.
Appreciation given to Martin Ashman & Steve Blake for judging all 20 entries.
Thank you also to our Stewards, Dummy Throwers and Helpers, without which we could not run the Test.
Ian Stevens, Joanna Murphy, Ray Titchener, Lynne Bramwell and Bryn Parker.
We are also grateful to our generous sponsors, Skinnes Dog Foods and Gamekeepers Goods for their lovely prizes for the Award Winners. Milly from Milys Photography took some great shots of the dogs in action, photos are on Facebook Group Page.

Thank you to the Judges who were so patient with new and young competitors, explaining how the Test would be held and ensuring all spaniels had a fair run. Scenting conditions were excellent in the cool woodland amongst the carpets of bluebells.
Much appreciation to all the Helpers/Dummy Throwers & Stewards: Rod, Owen, Martin, Lynne, Helen, Michael, Joanne & Rosie.
Many thanks to Kieron Yeo for taking lots of fabulous Photos. Please contact Kieron if you would like copies
We had a lot of spaniels to get through as the classes were full and could not have got through a busy day without our Team of able & willing volunteers.
It was very rewarding to see first time competitors gaining awards in their first K.C. Working Test.
Thank you also to our generous sponsors, Skinners Dog Foods & Gamekeepers Goods for their lovely gundog gifts & prizes.
